The mission of the Staten Island Pipes and Drums is to teach, perform and foster community appreciation of bagpipe music. Established more than 51 years ago, the band entertains with a collection of traditional and popular music and offers free pipe and drum instruction. The Pipes and Drums of Staten Island participate in numerous parades and other events throughout the New York / New Jersey area. The band is supported by dollars earned through its performances and we also have a long history of volunteerism in support of numerous community and charitable causes.
Active band membership for the 2016 St. Patrick’s season is approximately 30 persons (20 pipers and 10 drummers). The band is an independent not-for-profit organization whose only membership requirements are willingness and effort to learn the pipes or drums and participation at rehearsals and performances.
Lessons are offered for playing the bagpipe and for snare, tenor, and bass drumming. In addition to its own experienced players, band instruction is supported by the efforts of an accomplished bagpipe teacher and drumming instructor. Any persons interested in learning these arts are invited to join us at practices that are held each Tuesday evening from 8pm to 10pm at PepperJacks Grill on Manor Road, Staten Island NY. As already mentioned, the lessons are offered free of charge.
Individuals, small groups, or the whole band may be available for events such as parades, parties, weddings, and memorials. Please feel free to inquire as to availability or other details.
